Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Music Therapist to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will provide therapeutic interventions to patients across various departments, including mental health, palliative care, and rehabilitation. This role involves using music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs, improving quality of life for our patients. You will work within established care plans, assessing patient needs, developing tailored music therapy programmes, and evaluating outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive music therapy assessments for patients.
  • Design and implement individualized or group music therapy programmes.
  • Facilitate therapeutic music sessions, utilizing various musical instruments and techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records, contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to integrate music therapy into overall care plans.
  • Provide support and education to patients, families, and staff regarding music therapy.
  • Adhere to professional and ethical guidelines set by the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT).
  • Participate in supervision, professional development, and service evaluation activities.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Music Therapy from an accredited programme.
  • HCPC registration as a Music Therapist.
  • Demonstrable experience working as a Music Therapist in a clinical setting (minimum 2 years).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
  • Proficiency in playing multiple musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, percussion).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within an NHS Trust.
  • Specialization or advanced training in specific areas (e.g., palliative care, paediatrics, mental health).
  • Experience with research or service development initiatives in music therapy.
  • Familiarity with electronic patient record systems.
