Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and efficient Forklift Dockhand to join our bustling logistics hub in Grand Island, Nebraska. This role is essential for maintaining the swift and accurate movement of freight within our facility. As a Forklift Dockhand, you will be responsible for operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, stack, and move products and materials. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to safety, efficiency, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts (sit-down, stand-up, reach truck) and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload trailers and containers, ensuring proper handling of all types of freight.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for damage or discrepancies, reporting issues as necessary.
- Properly stage products in designated warehouse locations, optimizing space and accessibility.
- Accurately scan and track inventory using a warehouse management system (WMS) or handheld devices.
- Perform routine pre-shift inspections of equipment and report any maintenance needs.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in general warehouse duties as required, including cleanup and organization.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating forklifts (certification preferred or willingness to obtain immediately).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling freight.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and inventory tracking.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks repeatedly.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all operational procedures.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a logistics, warehouse, or distribution center setting.
- Familiarity with various types of material handling equipment beyond forklifts.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.
- Valid driver's license.
