Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Google Network Support Engineer to join our dynamic team, focusing on both field and remote support within the North Yorkshire region. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring the robust and continuous operation of Google’s network infrastructure, delivering top-tier support for both hardware and software issues. You will be a key player in troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading network systems, performing diagnostics, and resolving complex technical problems through remote tools and hands-on field visits. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of network protocols and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert remote and on-site field support for Google's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
- Perform advanced network troubleshooting, diagnostics, and problem resolution for connectivity, performance, and security issues.
- Implement, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to Google's standards.
- Conduct regular network health checks, preventative maintenance, and system upgrades.
- Respond to and resolve network-related incidents and service requests efficiently, minimizing downtime.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams to identify root causes of network problems and implement long-term solutions.
- Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps accurately.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical network issues.
- Ensure compliance with all security policies and operational procedures.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPNs, and other networking protocols.
- Strong experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise-level networking equipment.
- Demonstrable experience in network troubleshooting and fault isolation.
- Solid understanding of network security principles and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote and field-based capacity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid UK driving license for field visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, or equivalent.
- Experience with cloud networking (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and automation (e.g., Python scripting).
- Previous experience in a large-scale, enterprise network environment.
