Job Description

Audible UK is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Audiobook Transcriptionist to join our remote team on a contract basis. This home-based role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of our diverse audiobook catalog. You will be responsible for converting spoken audio into precise written text, playing a vital part in the production process of high-quality audio content. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately transcribe audio files of various genres (fiction, non-fiction, educational) into text format.
  • Ensure grammar, punctuation, and spelling are correct, adhering to established style guides.
  • Identify and tag different speakers in audio recordings.
  • Timestamp significant events or speaker changes as required.
  • Review and proofread transcribed content to maintain Audible's high-quality standards.
  • Manage transcription workload to meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers regarding any audio quality issues or ambiguities.

Required Skills

  • Native-level proficiency in English language (grammar, spelling, punctuation).
  • Exceptional listening skills and acute attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to transcribe spoken audio accurately and quickly.
  • Proficiency with transcription software and tools.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain focus in a home-based environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in audiobook transcription or literary proofreading.
  • Familiarity with various accents and dialects.
  • Experience with style guides such as Chicago Manual of Style or equivalent.
