Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Remote FOIA Analyst to join our team, focusing on government transparency initiatives. In this role, you will be instrumental in processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and supporting our clients in navigating complex information disclosure challenges. This position is 100% remote, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States, supporting our Pasadena-based team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from initial receipt to final closure.
  • Conduct thorough searches for responsive documents across various systems and departments.
  • Analyze and review documents for privileged, sensitive, or protected information in accordance with FOIA exemptions and other applicable laws.
  • Prepare official responses to requesters, including drafting exemption justifications and release determinations.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, legal counsel, and government agencies to ensure timely and accurate responses.
  • Maintain detailed records of all FOIA requests, communications, and decisions.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients on FOIA compliance best practices and policy interpretation.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of FOIA processing workflows and tools.
  • Stay updated on relevant FOIA laws, regulations, and judicial precedents.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in FOIA processing, government transparency, or legal research.
  • Strong understanding of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and related policies and regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive document reviews and identifying sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of drafting clear and concise official correspondence.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with FOIA tracking software and electronic document management systems.
  • Previous experience working with federal government agencies or large public sector organizations.
  • Knowledge of privacy laws (e.g., Privacy Act) and their interplay with FOIA.
  • Legal background or paralegal certification.
