Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Flight Nurse (RN) to join our aeromedical transport team in Garden Grove. This critical role involves providing advanced critical care and emergency medical interventions to patients during inter-facility transfers and on-scene emergency responses via helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft. The Flight Nurse operates with a high degree of autonomy, making independent clinical judgments under the guidance of medical direction, often in challenging and dynamic environments. You will be responsible for stabilizing and managing critically ill or injured patients across various age groups, ensuring optimal patient outcomes during transport.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and provide appropriate advanced critical care interventions in accordance with established protocols and medical direction.
  • Administer medications, manage airways, initiate and maintain ventilators, and perform other life-saving procedures during transport.
  • Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment used in aeromedical transport, ensuring its readiness and functionality.
  • Collaborate effectively with pilots, paramedics, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and transport logistics.
  • Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions in electronic medical records.
  • Participate in pre-mission briefings, post-mission debriefings, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain currency in all required certifications, licenses, and clinical competencies.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients, crew, and aircraft operations.
  • Provide empathetic communication and support to patients and their families.

Required Skills

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
  • Minimum of 4 years (48 months) of recent critical care experience (e.g., ICU, ED, CCU).
  • Current certifications: ACLS, PALS, BLS, and TNCC or PHTLS.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties in a dynamic aircraft environment, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.
  • Experience in an aeromedical transport setting.
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or equivalent.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Previous experience operating specialized medical equipment in transport.
