Job Description
METRO is seeking dedicated and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as City Transit Bus Drivers. This vital role involves operating transit buses on designated routes within Downtown Houston and surrounding areas, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of passengers. Drivers are responsible for maintaining a professional demeanor, assisting passengers, collecting fares, and adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate transit buses safely and efficiently on scheduled routes, adhering to timetables.
- Transport passengers to various destinations across Downtown Houston and the greater metropolitan area.
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting passengers with boarding, alighting, and general inquiries.
- Collect fares and issue transfers accurately using electronic farebox systems.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, reporting any mechanical defects or safety concerns.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company regulations, and safety procedures at all times.
- Manage passenger behavior and maintain a comfortable and secure environment on the bus.
- Complete necessary paperwork and reports, including incident reports and mileage logs.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and emergency services as needed.
Required Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement.
- Clean driving record for the past 5 years.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to traffic laws.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle operation and minor troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating large passenger vehicles or commercial buses.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Defensive driving certification.
- Familiarity with Houston's street network and public transportation system.
- Ability to speak Spanish or other languages common in the Houston area.
