Job Description
Clair Global is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Backline Technician with a Specialized Gear Focus for our Tour Support division. This role is crucial for ensuring the impeccable functionality, maintenance, and setup of all backline equipment, particularly specialized instruments and amplification systems, for various touring productions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in a diverse range of musical instruments and amplification, strong problem-solving abilities, and the resilience required for demanding tour environments. You will be responsible for preparing gear for tours, troubleshooting on-site, and collaborating closely with artists and production teams to deliver flawless technical support, contributing directly to the success of world-class live events.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive maintenance, repair, and setup of specialized backline equipment including guitars, basses, keyboards, drums, amplifiers, pedals, and other instruments.
- Conduct pre-tour preparation, testing, and quality control checks for all assigned backline gear, ensuring tour readiness.
- Provide on-site technical support during rehearsals and live performances, including tuning, string changes, drum head replacements, and urgent repairs.
- Collaborate effectively with artists, production managers, and other technical staff to meet specific backline requirements and resolve technical issues swiftly.
- Manage equipment inventory, logging, and transport logistics for touring productions.
- Configure and operate complex instrument rigs, MIDI setups, and digital audio workstations (DAWs) as required.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and industry best practices for equipment handling and electrical safety.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of musical instruments and amplification (guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, amps).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for analog and digital audio systems.
- Proficiency in soldering and basic electronics repair.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially under pressure.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively for tours.
- Experience with inventory management and tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized technical school or relevant industry training programs.
- Experience with specific brands of high-end backline equipment (e.g., Fender, Gibson, Marshall, Ampeg, Roland, Yamaha, Mapex, DW).
- Familiarity with network audio protocols (e.g., Dante, AVB).
- Previous touring experience in a similar backline or instrument technician role.
- Knowledge of foreign object damage (FOD) prevention practices.
