Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and physically capable Orthopedic Unit Porter to join our dynamic team. This is a crucial role within our orthopedic department, directly supporting patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our services. The ideal candidate will be reliable, empathetic, and possess excellent communication skills, with a strong ability to manage a physically demanding workload. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of patients, equipment, and medical supplies throughout the orthopedic unit and wider hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and compassionately transport patients, including those with orthopedic injuries, between wards, departments, and treatment areas.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff with moving and positioning patients as required.
  • Transport medical equipment, supplies, and specimens throughout the orthopedic unit and hospital.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and readiness of wheelchairs, trolleys, and other patient transport equipment.
  • Deliver and collect patient notes, laboratory samples, and other essential items.
  • Maintain a safe and organized working environment within the orthopedic unit.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and hospital policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital environment.
  • Experience in a role requiring significant physical activity.
  • Knowledge of manual handling techniques.
  • First Aid certification.
