Job Description
Are you a student looking for a flexible on-campus job that complements your studies? Chaffey College is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student Lab Support to assist with the daily operations and maintenance of our various academic laboratories. This role is ideal for students eager to gain practical experience in a scientific or technical setting, contribute to a thriving educational environment, and develop valuable professional skills. You will work closely with faculty and staff to ensure labs are well-prepared, safe, and efficient for student use.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory materials and equipment for various instructional sessions.
- Assist faculty and staff with setting up and dismantling experiments and demonstrations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces, including workstations, storage areas, and equipment.
- Monitor laboratory supplies, report inventory needs, and assist with stocking new materials.
- Ensure all safety protocols and guidelines are followed within the lab.
- Provide basic technical assistance to students during lab sessions under supervision.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration checks on lab equipment.
- Handle and dispose of laboratory waste according to established procedures.
- Assist with data entry and record-keeping related to lab usage and inventory.
- Support special projects and initiatives within the academic department as needed.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled as a student at Chaffey College or a recognized institution.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures (training will be provided).
- Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively around academic commitments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting (academic or professional).
- Coursework in science, engineering, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with specific lab equipment or experimental techniques relevant to the department.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
