Job Description

Covenant Health System is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Orthopedic Cast Room Technician (Trainee) to join our dynamic orthopedic team. This entry-level position offers comprehensive training in the application, removal, and maintenance of orthopedic casts and splints, under the direct supervision of experienced clinicians. You will play a vital role in patient care, ensuring comfort and proper support for those recovering from musculoskeletal injuries. Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist with the application and removal of various orthopedic casts and splints, including plaster and fiberglass.
  • Provide patient education on cast care, mobility restrictions, and signs of complications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked cast room, ensuring all equipment and supplies are readily available.
  • Assist orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants, and nurses during patient examinations and procedures.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions or discomfort during cast application or removal.
  • Document cast procedures and patient interactions accurately in electronic health records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop skills in orthopedic patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient interaction.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting (volunteer or paid) is a plus.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
