Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Health Service Porters to join our essential team at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. In this stable role, you will be crucial to the smooth operation of our hospital, ensuring patients, equipment, and vital supplies are moved safely and efficiently. This is an essential worker status position, offering a vital contribution to healthcare delivery and direct support to patient well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transporting patients via wheelchair, bed, or trolley between wards, departments, and clinics.
  • Moving medical equipment, records, specimens, and supplies throughout the hospital.
  • Delivering mail, packages, and other items to designated areas.
  • Assisting clinical staff with patient transfers and mobility when required.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of transport equipment.
  • Responding promptly to requests from medical and administrative staff.
  • Adhering to all health and safety regulations and hospital policies.

Required Skills

  • Ability to push, pull, and lift heavy items and patients safely.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a portering or customer service role.

  • Manual handling training certification.
  • Basic first aid knowledge.
