Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Media Interview Typist with a strong focus on journalism to join our remote team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for accurately transcribing interviews, press conferences, and other audio content for journalistic purposes. Your work will directly support our reporters and editors, ensuring the fidelity and precision of quotes and information used in news stories. This is a remote position requiring excellent listening skills, fast and accurate typing, and a keen understanding of journalistic ethics and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio recordings of interviews, press conferences, and live events with exceptional accuracy and speed.
- Review and edit transcriptions for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and factual consistency.
- Ensure proper attribution and context for all transcribed content, maintaining journalistic integrity.
- Manage multiple transcription assignments, prioritizing effectively to meet tight deadlines.
- Collaborate with journalists and editorial staff to clarify audio or content as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Utilize transcription software and tools efficiently.
Required Skills
- Minimum typing speed of 80 WPM with high accuracy.
- Exceptional listening skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Strong understanding of journalistic principles and ethics.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Familiarity with various audio formats and transcription software.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in media transcription, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience with legal or medical transcription is a plus.
- Knowledge of AP style guide.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
