Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Radio Sound Engineer to join our dynamic team in Pasco, Washington. This role is crucial for ensuring the highest quality audio for our live broadcasts, events, and recorded content. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical operation, maintenance, and setup of all audio equipment, working closely with on-air talent and production teams to deliver seamless and engaging programming. This position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and comes with a shift differential pay structure to compensate for non-standard hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain professional audio consoles, microphones, and other broadcast equipment for live and pre-recorded programming.
- Conduct sound checks, signal monitoring, and quality control during all broadcasts to ensure optimal audio fidelity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve audio equipment issues quickly and efficiently to minimize airtime disruptions.
- Set up and tear down audio equipment for in-studio and remote broadcasts or events.
- Collaborate with producers, directors, and talent to achieve desired audio levels and sound quality.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of audio equipment to ensure peak performance.
- Manage and organize audio assets, including music, sound effects, and voiceovers.
- Adhere to all FCC regulations and station technical standards.
- Participate in training and development to stay current with audio technology trends and best practices.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Sound Engineer, Audio Engineer, or similar role in a live broadcast environment.
- Proficiency with professional audio mixing consoles (digital and analog) and broadcast software.
- Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and sound reinforcement principles.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair audio equipment quickly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of FCC regulations pertaining to broadcasting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with specific broadcast automation systems (e.g., WideOrbit, ENCO, RCS).
- Certifications in audio production or broadcast engineering (e.g., SBE, Audinate Dante).
- Experience with field recording and remote broadcast setups.
- Familiarity with IP-based audio networking (e.g., Dante, AES67).
