Job Description
Join our dedicated team as a Local Council Minibus Driver for our Community Transport service. You will be responsible for safely transporting passengers, many of whom are elderly, have mobility issues, or special needs, to various destinations within the Horsham district. This role requires a compassionate individual with excellent driving skills and a commitment to providing a friendly and reliable service. You will be an essential link in helping residents maintain their independence and participate in community life.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate minibuses safely and courteously in accordance with all traffic laws and council policies.
- Assist passengers, including those with mobility challenges, with boarding and alighting the vehicle, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing passengers.
- Maintain a high standard of vehicle cleanliness and perform daily vehicle checks, reporting any defects promptly.
- Ensure the welfare and safety of all passengers during transport.
- Follow scheduled routes and timings, adapting to unforeseen circumstances while maintaining excellent timekeeping.
- Handle passenger inquiries and provide a friendly, helpful service.
- Maintain accurate journey records and complete necessary paperwork.
Required Skills
- Full UK Driving License (Category B minimum, D1 preferred or willingness to obtain)
- Excellent driving record with no more than 3 penalty points
- Strong commitment to passenger safety and comfort
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Patience, empathy, and a friendly demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
- Category D1 driving license entitlement (without 101 restriction)
- Previous experience driving minibuses or similar vehicles
- Experience working with elderly or vulnerable individuals
- First Aid certification
- Knowledge of the Horsham district road network
