Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Chemistry Project Lead to join our dynamic Pharmaceutical Development team in Memphis, TN. This pivotal role involves leading complex chemistry projects from early-stage development through to commercialization, ensuring scientific excellence, operational efficiency, and adherence to regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of synthetic organic chemistry, process development, and a proven track record in project leadership within the pharmaceutical industry. You will be instrumental in driving our pipeline forward, collaborating cross-functionally with process development, analytical, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to achieve project milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple chemistry projects, overseeing all aspects from conception to completion.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Provide expert scientific guidance and technical oversight to chemistry teams, ensuring robust experimental design and data interpretation.
- Drive process optimization and scale-up activities for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
- Identify and mitigate project risks, developing contingency plans to ensure successful outcomes.
- Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory affairs.
- Prepare and present project updates, technical reports, and regulatory documentation to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, ICH guidelines, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Mentor and develop junior scientific staff within the project team.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field
- Minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical R&D, with significant experience in process chemistry and API development
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex scientific projects and managing multidisciplinary teams
- Strong understanding of synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and process analytical technologies (PAT)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools
- In-depth knowledge of cGMP, ICH guidelines, and global regulatory expectations for pharmaceutical development
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification or equivalent project management qualification
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma principles in a pharmaceutical development setting
- Prior experience in a strategic role influencing pipeline decisions
- Expertise in specific therapeutic areas relevant to BMS (e.g., oncology, immunology, cardiovascular)
