Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Traffic Sign Installation Laborer to join our Outdoor Council team. This role is crucial for ensuring the proper installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs throughout the City of Naperville. You will work outdoors in various weather conditions, contributing directly to public safety and traffic flow. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to operate various tools and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and replace various types of traffic signs, including regulatory, warning, and guide signs, following established guidelines and specifications.
- Prepare work sites, including digging post holes, mixing concrete, and ensuring proper alignment and stability of signs.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and light machinery such as post-hole diggers, drills, and concrete mixers.
- Load and unload materials and equipment from vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and sign locations.
- Conduct routine inspections of existing signs for damage, visibility issues, or non-compliance.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and departmental procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with other public works tasks as needed, including general labor, grounds maintenance, and snow removal during winter months.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and power tools commonly used in construction or public works.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, public works, or a related outdoor labor role.
- Experience operating light machinery (e.g., skid steers, mini-excavators) is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of traffic sign regulations and standards (e.g., MUTCD).
