Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Hazmat/Tanker Specialist with a strong focus on chemical logistics to join our dynamic team in SODO, Seattle, WA. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe and compliant transportation of hazardous materials and bulk chemicals, adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations. You will be part of a team dedicated to operational excellence and industry-leading safety standards. As a Hazmat/Tanker Specialist, you will be responsible for the meticulous handling, loading, transportation, and unloading of various chemical products, primarily in tanker trucks. Your expertise will guarantee the integrity of our shipments and the safety of our personnel and the public. This position requires a deep understanding of hazardous materials regulations (DOT, OSHA, EPA) and a commitment to continuous improvement in safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tanker trucks and related equipment for the safe transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with all safety standards.
  • Verify proper placarding, labeling, and documentation for all hazardous materials shipments in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Perform safe loading and unloading procedures for bulk chemicals, including proper hook-up and disconnect, monitoring gauges, and preventing spills.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and manifest documents, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Respond effectively to potential spills or incidents, following established emergency response protocols and reporting procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and adhere to all company policies and procedures related to hazardous materials handling and transportation.
  • Collaborate with dispatch, customer service, and warehouse teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery schedules.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.

Required Skills

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with Tanker and Hazardous Materials (H) endorsements
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in hazmat/tanker operations, specifically with chemical products
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local hazardous materials regulations
  • Proven ability to perform safe loading and unloading procedures for bulk chemicals
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific chemical types (e.g., acids, bases, solvents, petrochemicals)
  • Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems (TMS)
  • Additional certifications in hazardous waste management or emergency response
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or experience training junior drivers/specialists
