Job Description
Join the Royal British Legion as a Veteran Affairs Outreach Assistant and play a crucial role in connecting with and supporting our valued veteran community in Coventry and the surrounding areas. This vital position involves actively reaching out to veterans, understanding their needs, and guiding them towards the appropriate support services offered by the Legion and our partners. You will be a compassionate first point of contact, helping to ensure no veteran is left behind. This role requires empathy, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach activities to identify veterans in need of support within the designated geographic area.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for veterans, providing a welcoming and understanding presence.
- Assess veterans' needs and provide information on available Royal British Legion services, including welfare, housing, employment, and mental health support.
- Assist veterans with application processes for various benefits and support programs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and support provided.
- Build and maintain relationships with local community organizations, charities, and service providers to expand the network of support for veterans.
- Organize and participate in local events to raise awareness of veteran issues and the Legion's services.
- Report on outreach activities and outcomes to team leaders.
Required Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated empathy and understanding for the challenges faced by veterans.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A valid UK driving license and access to a car for travel within the local area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in outreach, community engagement, or support services.
- Knowledge of the Armed Forces community and veteran support landscape.
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals or groups.
