Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Marine Chief Engineer to lead the engineering department on board our state-of-the-art vessels. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in marine engineering, excellent leadership skills, and an unwavering commitment to safety and operational efficiency. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and safe operation of all machinery and systems on the vessel, ensuring compliance with international regulations and company policies. This is an international role, and we welcome applications from qualified candidates globally who are prepared for sea-going duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the entire engineering department, including personnel, maintenance, and operational schedules.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all main engines, auxiliary machinery, and vessel systems.
  • Develop and implement planned maintenance systems (PMS) for all engineering equipment, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
  • Conduct regular inspections and performance monitoring of machinery, promptly identifying and resolving any issues.
  • Manage bunker operations, lubrication, and consumables, ensuring efficient use and inventory control.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code) and company safety management systems.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team, fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the departmental budget, controlling expenditures and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all engineering activities, maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Liaise effectively with the Master and other department heads to ensure smooth and coordinated vessel operations.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies, ensuring the safety of the vessel, crew, and environment.

Required Skills

  • Class 1 (Motor) Chief Engineer unlimited certificate of competency (STCW A-III/2).
  • Extensive sea-going experience as a Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer on relevant vessel types.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine diesel engines, auxiliary systems, electrical systems, and automation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in planned maintenance systems (PMS) and fault diagnosis.
  • Excellent understanding of international maritime regulations and safety management systems.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific vessel types in the Bibby Marine fleet (e.g., offshore support vessels, survey vessels).
  • Additional training or certifications in specialized areas (e.g., high-voltage systems, refrigeration).
  • Familiarity with environmental protection technologies and best practices.
  • Experience working with diverse international crews.
