Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Gastroenterologist to join our dedicated medical team at Nuffield Health in Slough, Berkshire. This is an exceptional opportunity for a specialist to deliver high-quality patient care in a state-of-the-art facility, working within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will be responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary conditions, utilising advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive consultations, examinations, and assessments of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms and disorders.
- Diagnose and manage various digestive conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, liver diseases, and pancreatic disorders.
- Perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy, adhering to best practice guidelines.
- Interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory results to formulate accurate and effective treatment plans.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, radiologists, dietitians, and specialist nurses to provide holistic patient care.
- Participate in on-call rotations and emergency gastroenterology services as required.
- Maintain meticulous and up-to-date patient records in compliance with clinical governance and regulatory standards.
- Commit to continuous professional development, clinical audit, and research activities to enhance service delivery.
Required Skills
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
- Full and unrestricted registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Gastroenterology or equivalent specialist registration.
- Demonstrable experience of at least 5 years post-CCT in a specialist Gastroenterology role.
- Proficiency in performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
- Excellent diagnostic acumen, clinical reasoning, and decision-making abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to patient-centred care, quality improvement, and adherence to ethical guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Sub-specialty interest within Gastroenterology (e.g., hepatology, advanced interventional endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease).
- Experience in leading or actively participating in clinical audits, research projects, or service development initiatives.
- Postgraduate qualification such as an MD or PhD.
- Teaching or mentoring experience for junior medical staff or students.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies such as the British Society of Gastroenterology.
