Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Car Carrier Trailer Loader (Mate) to join our team in Port Elgin, Ontario. In this essential on-site role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles onto multi-level car carrier trailers. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring vehicles are transported securely and efficiently, contributing directly to our operational excellence and customer satisfaction. This role involves direct interaction with traffic and travel routes as part of the loading and transit process.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload a variety of vehicles onto multi-level car carrier trailers according to company standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Inspect vehicles for existing damage prior to loading and document findings accurately.
- Secure vehicles using appropriate tie-downs, chains, and straps to prevent movement during transit.
- Assist the primary driver (Car Carrier Operator) with maneuvering trailers and positioning vehicles as needed.
- Perform routine checks and minor maintenance on loading equipment and trailers.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, traffic laws, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of loaded vehicles, delivery manifests, and inspection reports.
- Communicate effectively with team members, dispatch, and customers.
- Navigate direct traffic and travel routes as part of the loading and transit process.
Required Skills
- Valid G or higher class driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proven ability to operate various types of vehicles safely (manual and automatic transmission).
- Strong understanding of vehicle securement techniques and best practices.
- Excellent spatial reasoning and problem-solving abilities for efficient loading.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical fitness to perform duties including climbing, bending, and lifting.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a logistics, transportation, or automotive role.
- Familiarity with car carrier operations or large vehicle loading.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Comfortable with technology for digital record-keeping and communication.
