Job Description
Join National Express West Midlands as a Public School Bus Driver, providing essential transportation services for school children during term time. This role is crucial for ensuring students arrive at school safely and on schedule, contributing positively to their educational journey and the wider community. You will be responsible for operating a school bus along designated routes, adhering to strict safety protocols, and maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor with all passengers. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on established routes and schedules during school term times.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student passengers, adhering to company policies and child safeguarding guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
- Interact professionally and courteously with students, parents, and school staff.
- Manage student behavior on the bus in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch regarding route status, delays, or incidents.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and logs accurately.
- Participate in mandatory training and development programs.
Required Skills
- Valid UK PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) Licence – Category D.
- Valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC).
- Up-to-date CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
- A clean driving record with no major endorsements.
- Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and road safety regulations.
- Strong commitment to safety and passenger well-being.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse groups, including children, parents, and school staff.
- Patience, reliability, and a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a school bus driver or professional bus/coach driver.
- Familiarity with Coventry and surrounding West Midlands routes.
- Basic first aid certification.
- Experience working with children or young people.
