Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and eager to start a career in veterinary care? Vets4Pets Derry is looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Vet Clinic Helper to join our dedicated team. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals with no prior experience in a veterinary setting, as full training will be provided, especially in safe and humane animal handling. You will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinary nurses and surgeons, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic, and providing comfort and care to our animal patients. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to learn the ropes of veterinary practice from experienced professionals and contribute to a positive environment for both pets and people.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting veterinary nurses and surgeons with patient restraint and handling during examinations and procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the clinic, including kennels, consultation rooms, and surgical areas.
- Feeding, watering, and monitoring the comfort of hospitalized animals.
- Sterilising surgical instruments and preparing examination rooms.
- Restocking supplies and inventory management.
- Greeting clients and their pets, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.
- Performing basic administrative tasks as required.
- Learning and adhering to all clinic protocols and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for animals and a strong desire to work with them.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Physical ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience volunteering at an animal shelter or rescue organization.
- Basic knowledge of animal behaviour or welfare.
- First Aid certification.
- GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
