Job Description

The College of Music at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track University Music Professor. This position is open to candidates demonstrating exceptional promise in teaching, research, and creative activity within a specific area of music (e.g., Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Music Theory, Composition, Performance, or Music Education). The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs, maintain an active research agenda, and participate in service to the college and university. We seek a colleague committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in your area of specialization, including core curriculum courses as needed.
  • Develop and maintain an active and distinguished research, scholarly, or creative agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or performances.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and career paths, including thesis supervision for graduate students.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and service activities.
  • Contribute to the intellectual and artistic life of the College of Music and the broader university community.
  • Seek external funding and grants to support research and creative projects.

Required Skills

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or D.M.A.) in a relevant music discipline from an accredited institution by the start date of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for or established record of excellence in teaching at the university level.
  • Evidence of an active research agenda, scholarly publications, significant creative work, or professional performances.
  • Expertise in a specific area of music.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral experience or significant professional experience in a related field.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • A track record of successful grant applications or external funding for research/creative projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development and program innovation.
  • Proficiency in instructional technologies and online teaching methodologies.
