Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Hospital Porter to join our essential team on a full-time, 37.5-hour contract basis. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in the smooth operation of our healthcare facilities, ensuring the safe and efficient transport of patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies across the hospital. This role requires individuals with excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and other areas of the hospital.
  • Move medical equipment, beds, furniture, and supplies as required, following health and safety guidelines.
  • Deliver and collect specimens, patient notes, blood products, and pharmacy items efficiently.
  • Assist with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Ensure accurate completion of records related to tasks performed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of trolleys and other transport equipment.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to requests from medical staff and other departments.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control protocols.

Required Skills

  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently.
  • Good physical fitness for lifting, pushing, and prolonged standing/walking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient interaction.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy for record-keeping.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • A valid UK driving license (desirable but not essential).
