Job Description

The Wisconsin Department of Justice – State Crime Lab in Green Bay is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Forensic Lab Assistant. This entry-level government role is perfect for recent graduates or individuals with a foundational science background looking to embark on a career in forensic science. Key Responsibilities
- Assist forensic scientists with sample preparation, analysis, and documentation procedures.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting.
- Manage and organize forensic evidence, ensuring proper chain of custody and storage protocols.
- Prepare reagents and solutions according to established laboratory procedures.
- Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, report generation support, and filing.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, quality control standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
- Learn and apply foundational principles of forensic science disciplines.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science) preferred.
- Basic understanding of scientific principles and laboratory safety procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to follow detailed instructions precisely and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or experience in forensic science, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Previous laboratory experience, even in an academic setting.
