Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Stable Hand to join our team at Spokane Sport Horse Farm. This full-time position requires an individual with a strong work ethic, reliability, and a genuine passion for horses. You will be instrumental in the daily care and management of our horses, ensuring their health, comfort, and safety. This role involves early morning starts and physical labor in an outdoor environment, regardless of weather conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily mucking of stalls, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for horses.
- Feed and water horses according to established schedules and dietary requirements.
- Turn horses out to pastures and bring them in from turnout safely and efficiently.
- Assist with basic grooming tasks, including brushing and hoof picking.
- Monitor horses for any signs of injury, illness, or changes in behavior and report to management.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of barn aisles, tack rooms, feed rooms, and other facilities.
- Assist with minor facility maintenance tasks, such as fence repair or sweeping.
- Support veterinary and farrier visits, including holding horses when necessary.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored properly.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of horse behavior and handling.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliability and punctuality for early morning shifts.
- Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an equestrian stable or farm environment.
- Experience with horse first aid or basic medical care.
- Familiarity with various horse breeds and disciplines.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
