Job Description

We are seeking a highly meticulous and detail-oriented Speech Synthesis Evaluator to join our innovative team in Slough. In this critical role, you will be responsible for meticulously evaluating the quality of synthesized speech, identifying subtle linguistic and acoustic defects, and providing precise feedback to enhance our speech generation models. Your exceptional listening skills and keen ear for detail will be instrumental in ensuring our speech synthesis technology delivers a natural, human-like voice experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed and precise evaluation of synthesized speech output, identifying a wide range of linguistic, acoustic, and prosodic defects.
  • Categorize and log identified issues with high accuracy using proprietary internal tools and established guidelines.
  • Provide clear, concise, and actionable feedback to engineering and linguistic teams to inform model improvements.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of evaluation methodologies and quality standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including linguists, speech scientists, and software engineers.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of evolving speech synthesis technology and potential quality challenges.
  • Participate in calibration sessions to ensure consistent evaluation standards across the team.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional auditory perception and listening skills, with an acute ear for detail.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in identifying subtle speech nuances.
  • Strong analytical skills to categorize and describe complex audio phenomena.
  • Proficiency in English (native or near-native speaker level) with a strong grasp of phonetics and pronunciation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet evaluation targets.
  • Comfortable with technology and able to quickly learn new tools and software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Phonetics, Audiology, Music, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in speech quality evaluation, transcription, or audio analysis.
  • Familiarity with speech synthesis technologies or natural language processing (NLP).
  • Experience working with large datasets and annotation guidelines.
  • Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
