Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sewing Machinist to join our production team in Cheltenham. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating industrial sewing machines to produce high-quality textile components for our range of upholstered furniture and home furnishings. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining our high standards of craftsmanship. You will work as part of a dynamic team, contributing to the creation of products that bring comfort and style to thousands of homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various industrial sewing machines (e.g., flatbed, overlock, heavy-duty upholstery) to produce components according to specifications.
- Read and interpret patterns, templates, and specifications to ensure accurate production.
- Inspect materials and finished products for quality control, identifying and rectifying any defects.
- Maintain sewing machines, performing basic troubleshooting and cleaning.
- Work efficiently to meet production targets while maintaining high quality standards.
- Collaborate with other team members, including cutters and upholsterers, to ensure smooth workflow.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations within the workshop.
- Assist with other workshop duties as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Sewing Machinist, preferably in furniture upholstery or textile manufacturing.
- Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and patterns.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Sewing, Textiles, or Upholstery.
- Experience with a variety of fabrics, including heavy-duty upholstery materials.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
