Job Description
Pasco County Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse (RN) to join our team in New Port Richey, FL. This vital role involves providing comprehensive healthcare services to K-12 students, promoting health and wellness within the school community, and managing health-related issues that impact student learning. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care, first aid, and emergency treatment for students and staff.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments to students according to physician orders and district policy.
- Assess and evaluate health needs of students, developing and implementing individualized healthcare plans (IHPs).
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunizations and health screenings.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success.
- Monitor and control the spread of communicable diseases within the school.
- Educate students, staff, and parents on various health topics, promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) as mandated by state regulations.
- Respond to health crises and medical emergencies, coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local health regulations and school district policies.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficiency in health assessment and emergency medical care.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with electronic health records.
- Knowledge of child growth and development, and common childhood illnesses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Certified School Nurse (CSN) certification.
- Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
