Job Description
Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of young people? The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast is seeking a motivated and compassionate Life Skills Associate to join our vibrant team in Irvine, CA. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with a high school diploma who are eager to contribute immediately and help guide our members in developing crucial life skills. As a Life Skills Associate, you will play a vital role in delivering engaging and educational programs focused on personal development, social interaction, decision-making, and healthy living. You will work directly with youth, facilitating activities and providing mentorship in a supportive group setting, empowering them to build confidence and prepare for future success.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate structured and unstructured life skills activities and workshops for club members.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to youth on topics such as communication, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and personal responsibility.
- Assist in the development and implementation of age-appropriate curriculum for various life skill areas.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that encourages participation and learning.
- Monitor and track member progress and participation in programs.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless program delivery and support.
- Communicate effectively with club members, parents, and guardians regarding program activities and member conduct.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks, including record-keeping and supply management.
- Ensure compliance with all club policies and procedures, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all members.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated passion for working with children and young adults.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Basic understanding of child development principles.
- Ability to manage group dynamics and maintain order in a youth setting.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be available to work evenings and some weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in youth development, education, or a related field (volunteer or paid).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of positive youth development strategies.
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
