Job Description

As a Remote FOIA Analyst at Booz Allen Hamilton, you will play a crucial role in ensuring government transparency and accountability. You will be responsible for processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, conducting thorough document reviews, and facilitating timely and accurate responses. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of FOIA regulations and related privacy statutes. You will work independently in a remote environment, collaborating with various stakeholders to gather information and ensure compliance. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to public access to government information and support critical client missions from anywhere in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from initial receipt to final closure.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal and factual analysis of requested records to determine releasability under FOIA exemptions.
  • Redact sensitive information in accordance with FOIA and Privacy Act regulations.
  • Liaise with government agencies, legal counsel, and program offices to obtain necessary documents and clarifications.
  • Prepare detailed response packages, including correspondence and released documents, for agency review and public dissemination.
  • Maintain accurate records of all FOIA requests, actions, and communications using case management systems.
  • Provide expert guidance on FOIA compliance and best practices to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with changes in FOIA legislation, regulations, and relevant case law.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (3+ years) processing FOIA requests within a government agency, legal firm, or consulting environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. § 552) and the Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. § 552a).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed document review and redaction.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with electronic FOIA case management systems (e.g., FOIAXpress, eFOIA).
  • Familiarity with government record-keeping practices and information management.
  • Experience in a client-facing consulting role.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
