Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Remote FOIA Analyst to join our team, focusing on government transparency initiatives. In this role, you will be instrumental in processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and supporting our clients in navigating complex information disclosure requirements. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about public access to information and skilled in legal research, document review, and effective communication. As a remote member of our team, you will contribute directly to critical government transparency efforts from anywhere in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, process, and track Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from initial receipt through final disposition.
  • Conduct comprehensive document reviews to identify and redact sensitive or protected information in accordance with FOIA exemptions and other applicable laws.
  • Prepare official responses to FOIA requests, including denial letters, fee waivers, and other correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate records of all FOIA requests, communications, and decisions using designated tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with various government agencies and internal stakeholders to gather necessary information and facilitate timely responses.
  • Provide guidance and training to agency personnel on FOIA compliance, best practices, and new regulations.
  • Analyze and interpret complex legal documents, policies, and regulations related to information access and disclosure.
  • Support litigation efforts related to FOIA appeals and disputes, including preparing administrative records.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of FOIA processing procedures and transparency initiatives.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all federal and agency-specific guidelines regarding information security and privacy.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in FOIA processing, legal research, or compliance within a government or related environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and related regulations.
  • Proficiency in document review, redaction, and information classification techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and concise legal correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document management systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with e-Discovery platforms or specialized FOIA software.
  • Familiarity with the Privacy Act of 1974.
  • Previous experience working as a contractor for a federal agency.
  • Certification in Paralegal Studies or a related legal field.
