Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Radio Sound Engineer to join our dynamic team in Wesley Chapel, FL, for live broadcasting operations. This role is critical for ensuring the highest audio quality for our on-air programming, live events, and digital content. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of audio engineering principles, broadcast technology, and an ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure. This position requires working a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and offers a competitive shift differential. You will be instrumental in maintaining the technical integrity of our broadcast facilities and supporting our on-air talent and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain broadcast audio consoles, mixing equipment, and associated studio gear during live radio programs and events.
- Monitor and adjust audio levels, equalization, and dynamics to ensure optimal sound quality for broadcast and streaming.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, calibration, and repair of audio equipment, transmitters, and broadcast systems.
- Troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively to minimize downtime during live broadcasts.
- Set up, test, and operate remote broadcast equipment for outside events and live remotes.
- Assist in the installation and configuration of new broadcast equipment and software.
- Collaborate with producers, announcers, and other technical staff to meet production requirements.
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation of maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and operational issues.
- Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and company technical standards.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with digital and analog audio consoles (e.g., Axia, Wheatstone, Lawo).
- Strong knowledge of broadcast audio processing and signal flow.
- Experience with broadcast automation systems (e.g., WideOrbit, Enco).
- Ability to diagnose and repair electronic equipment at a component level.
- Familiarity with IP audio networking and broadcast IT infrastructure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Effective communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) certification (CBRE, CSRE, CBNT).
- Experience with remote broadcast setups and satellite uplink/downlink technology.
- Familiarity with video production and streaming technologies.
- Prior experience in a live radio broadcasting environment.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for broadcast systems.
