Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician Intern to join our team in New Port Richey, Florida. This internship provides an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both retail pharmacy operations and an introduction to clinical pharmacy practices. You will work alongside experienced pharmacists and technicians, assisting with daily tasks, learning about medication dispensing, patient counseling, and the broader healthcare system. This role is perfect for students currently enrolled in a pharmacy technician program or pre-pharmacy track looking for comprehensive exposure to the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
- Learn and perform medication inventory management, including ordering, stocking, and organizing pharmaceuticals.
- Engage with patients under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assisting with inquiries and providing excellent customer service.
- Process patient information and prescriptions using pharmacy software systems.
- Understand and adhere to all legal and ethical guidelines related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Prepare medication compounds and dosages as directed by a pharmacist.
- Participate in learning modules and training sessions to expand knowledge of pharmacology and pharmacy operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Pharmacy Technician training program or pre-pharmacy program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior customer service experience in any field.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Certification or registration as a Pharmacy Intern/Technician Trainee with the Florida Board of Pharmacy (or eligibility to obtain).
