Job Description
Join Suncor Energy as a Petroleum Engineering Intern within our Upstream Operations team. This internship offers a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers to gain hands-on experience in the critical aspects of oil and gas production, from reservoir management to well operations. You will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to real-world projects that impact our operational efficiency and long-term sustainability goals. This role is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of upstream challenges and solutions in a leading energy company.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the analysis of reservoir performance data to optimize production strategies.
- Support engineers in well planning, design, and completion activities.
- Participate in field visits to observe and understand operational processes and equipment.
- Contribute to the development of technical reports and presentations on project findings.
- Utilize simulation software and data analytics tools to evaluate various engineering scenarios.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geoscientists, operations, and environmental specialists.
- Conduct research on new technologies and best practices in petroleum engineering.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in all tasks.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Petroleum Engineering or a related field.
- Strong academic record.
- Fundamental understanding of petroleum engineering principles (reservoir, drilling, production).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous exposure to oil and gas industry concepts or coursework.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software (e.g., Petrel, IPM, OFM, MATLAB).
- Demonstrated leadership or participation in student engineering organizations.
- Valid driver's license for potential site visits.
