Job Description

Join Banner Health as an Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician with a strong focus on patient interaction. In this vital role, you will bridge the gap between hospital discharge and home recovery by directly delivering prescribed medications to patients at their bedside before they leave the facility. Your primary mission will be to ensure patients understand their new medications, answer their questions, and provide a seamless transition of care, enhancing patient satisfaction and medication adherence. This role requires a compassionate individual with excellent communication skills and a meticulous approach to medication handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with discharged patients at their bedside to deliver prescribed outpatient medications.
  • Provide clear, concise, and patient-friendly medication counseling, including dosage, administration instructions, potential side effects, and storage.
  • Verify patient identity and medication accuracy according to established protocols.
  • Process patient payments for medications, ensuring secure and accurate transactions.
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve medication-related issues and ensure continuity of care.
  • Educate patients on the benefits of the Meds-to-Beds program and encourage participation.
  • Document all patient interactions and medication deliveries accurately in the electronic health record system.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all state and federal regulations, as well as Banner Health policies regarding medication handling and patient privacy.
  • Assist with inventory management and preparation of medication orders as needed.

Required Skills

  • Active Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) or equivalent state licensure/registration in Arizona.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in an outpatient or retail setting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong patient-centric approach.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and electronic health records.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of common pharmaceutical brand/generic names and drug classifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience specifically with Meds-to-Beds programs or discharge counseling.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English).
  • Associate's degree in a related field.
