Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician with a strong focus on patient interaction to join our pharmacy team in Thousand Oaks. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring a seamless medication experience for our discharged patients, delivering prescribed medications directly to their bedside before they leave the hospital. Your primary objective will be to provide exceptional customer service, educate patients on their medications, answer non-clinical questions, and ensure they feel supported and confident in managing their health post-discharge. This position requires excellent communication skills, empathy, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver prescribed medications directly to patients at their bedside prior to discharge.
- Provide clear and concise patient education on medication usage, storage, and potential side effects.
- Answer patient questions regarding their medications and escalate clinical inquiries to a pharmacist.
- Verify patient identity and medication accuracy against discharge orders.
- Process patient payments for medications and manage point-of-sale transactions.
- Coordinate with pharmacy staff, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure timely medication delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and patient interactions.
- Address patient concerns and resolve issues with a compassionate and professional demeanor.
- Adhere to all legal, ethical, and organizational standards and policies.
- Ensure a clean and organized workspace, including medication transport equipment.
Required Skills
- Current Pharmacy Technician license/certification in California (CPhT)
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in an outpatient or hospital setting
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong patient-first approach
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and basic computer applications
- Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations related to medication dispensing
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and lift moderate weights as required for medication delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 'meds-to-beds' programs or direct patient medication counseling
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus
- Experience in a large integrated healthcare system
