Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and motivated Onion Grading & Picking Assistant to join our team in Brighton and Hove. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across both warehouse operations and field harvesting, playing a crucial part in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our onion production. You will be responsible for carefully grading onions according to strict quality standards and assisting with the picking process during harvest seasons. This position is ideal for individuals who are physically fit, possess a keen eye for detail, and enjoy working in a dynamic agricultural environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual inspection and manual grading of onions to identify and remove defects, ensuring adherence to company quality standards.
- Assist with the picking and harvesting of onions in the field, following health and safety guidelines and best agricultural practices.
- Operate basic farm machinery or equipment as required, after receiving appropriate training.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment in both the warehouse and field.
- Support inventory management by accurately counting, weighing, and recording graded produce.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet daily production targets.
- Adhere to all company safety regulations and procedures at all times.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in grading and sorting produce.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety practices in a warehouse or agricultural setting.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in agriculture, farming, or a warehouse environment.
- Experience with fresh produce handling or quality control.
- Forklift operation certification (desirable, but not essential).
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings or weekends during peak seasons.
