Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as NHS Hospital Porters. This Band 2 role offers full training, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to start or advance their career in the healthcare sector, even without prior experience. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a vital role in the smooth running of our hospital, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, samples, and supplies. Your contribution will directly impact patient care and the overall hospital environment. We offer a comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and the security of an NHS pension scheme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, including those on beds, trolleys, or in wheelchairs, between wards, departments, and clinics.
  • Move medical equipment, including sensitive and fragile items, ensuring their secure delivery and collection.
  • Transport various items such as specimens, blood products, pharmaceuticals, linen, and waste across the hospital site.
  • Handle deceased patients with dignity and respect, transferring them to the mortuary.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, ensuring trolleys and equipment are regularly cleaned and stored appropriately.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and staff members.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and hospital procedures.
  • Respond promptly to requests via radio or pager system, prioritising tasks efficiently.
