Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Music Librarian to join our team at the College of Music. This full-time, on-site position provides specialized library services, manages extensive music collections, assists patrons, and supports the academic and performance needs of faculty, students, and staff. The role requires expertise in music cataloging, reference services, and collection development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the extensive music collection, including scores, recordings, and scholarly materials.
  • Provide expert reference and research assistance to faculty, students, and staff on music-related topics.
  • Perform original and copy cataloging of music materials using relevant standards (e.g., RDA, MARC21).
  • Develop and implement collection development policies for music resources.
  • Oversee the circulation and interlibrary loan of music materials.
  • Collaborate with other library departments and College of Music faculty to enhance services and resources.
  • Participate in library instruction sessions and workshops related to music research.
  • Stay current with trends in music librarianship, technology, and scholarly communication.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program with a specialization in Music Librarianship or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of music history, theory, and performance practices.
  • Proficiency in music cataloging standards (RDA, MARC21) and bibliographic utilities (e.g., OCLC).
  • Experience with library management systems (LMS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music.
  • Fluency in at least one foreign language (e.g., German, French, Italian) relevant to music scholarship.
  • Experience with digital music resources and archives.
  • Knowledge of current trends in digital humanities and open access publishing in music.
