Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Medical Center Porters to join our essential services team at our facilities in Derry/Londonderry. This vital role involves supporting the efficient operation of the medical center by ensuring the safe and timely transport of patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies throughout the hospital. Working within NHS standards, you will be a key part of our healthcare team, contributing directly to patient care and the smooth running of daily operations. This is an active role requiring excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, including those with varying mobility needs, by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, to and from wards, departments, and clinics.
- Move medical equipment, laboratory samples, patient records, and supplies between different areas of the medical center.
- Assist with the delivery and collection of various items, ensuring timely distribution.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of trolleys, wheelchairs, and other transport equipment.
- Respond to urgent requests for portering services efficiently and effectively.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety guidelines, infection control policies, and patient confidentiality protocols.
- Provide compassionate and respectful assistance to patients, offering reassurance and support as needed.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, hazards, or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
- Support the setup and clearing of rooms for various hospital activities as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff members.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to perform duties that involve prolonged standing, walking, and lifting.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work as part of a team.
- Understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality and dignity.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering role, preferably within a healthcare or similar environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures within a hospital setting.
- First aid certification.
