Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Materials Engineer to join our innovative team in Salmon Arm, BC. This role is crucial for the research, development, and application of advanced materials in our automotive components. The successful candidate will be responsible for material selection, characterization, testing, and failure analysis, ensuring our products meet the highest standards of performance, durability, and cost-efficiency. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development of new materials and material processing techniques to meet product specifications and performance requirements.
  • Perform material characterization using various analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, XRD, mechanical testing) to understand properties and behavior.
  • Lead failure analysis investigations for components, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to select appropriate materials for new products and optimize existing ones.
  • Develop and implement material testing protocols and specifications.
  • Evaluate suppliers' material capabilities and ensure material quality compliance.
  • Stay abreast of new material technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in materials science or engineering within a manufacturing or R&D environment.
  • Proficiency in various material characterization techniques and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, processing, and failure mechanisms.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the automotive industry or with materials used in automotive applications (e.g., metals, polymers, composites).
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and material simulation tools.
