Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and environmentally-conscious Marina Garbage Boat Operator to join our team in Bradford. In this essential role, you will be responsible for operating a specialized boat to skim trash, debris, and pollutants from our canals and waterways, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and beautiful for both wildlife and the public. This is a vital position in our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and maintaining the health of our cherished canal network. Key Responsibilities
- Operate a small specialized boat to patrol designated sections of canals and waterways in Bradford.
- Actively skim and collect floating rubbish, debris, plastics, and other pollutants from the water's surface.
- Monitor water quality and report any unusual observations or potential pollution incidents.
- Safely unload collected waste at designated disposal points and ensure proper segregation for recycling.
- Perform routine pre-operation checks and basic maintenance on the garbage boat and associated equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, navigation rules, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of areas cleaned, types of debris collected, and hours operated.
- Assist with other waterway maintenance tasks as required, such as vegetation management or towpath clearing.
Required Skills
- Ability to operate small boats safely and proficiently (training will be provided if necessary for specific equipment).
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and removing debris.
- Physical fitness to handle equipment, lift moderate weights, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- A responsible and reliable work ethic.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating boats or similar machinery.
