Job Description

We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Laboratory Automation Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This role is central to advancing our drug discovery and development pipeline by designing, implementing, and optimizing automated liquid handling and robotic systems for high-throughput experimentation. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in chemistry, automation, and data science to enhance efficiency, reproducibility, and throughput in our laboratories. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement automated laboratory workflows using various robotic platforms (e.g., liquid handlers, plate readers, incubators).
  • Program and operate automated instrumentation for high-throughput screening, assay development, and sample preparation.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of robotic systems to ensure optimal performance and data quality.
  • Collaborate with chemists, biologists, and data scientists to understand experimental requirements and translate them into automated solutions.
  • Develop and validate robust analytical methods for automated platforms, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Optimize existing automation protocols to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and increase throughput.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data generated from automated systems.
  • Stay current with advancements in laboratory automation, robotics, and analytical technologies, recommending and integrating new solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations and quality control standards.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or M.S. with 5+ years, or B.S. with 7+ years.
  • Demonstrated expertise in laboratory automation platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan, Agilent, PerkinElmer).
  • Strong programming skills for automation control (e.g., Python, VBScript, C#).
  • Proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS).
  • Experience with high-throughput screening and data analysis.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex instrumentation and software issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP, R).
  • Familiarity with robotic arm integration and scheduling software.
  • Understanding of machine learning principles applied to laboratory data.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology R&D settings.
