Job Description
Marathon Petroleum is seeking a motivated Junior Petroleum Mapping Aide to join our operations team in Louisville, KY. This entry-level role is crucial for maintaining accurate and up-to-date geographical information systems (GIS) and maps related to our petroleum infrastructure. The successful candidate will work extensively with GPS technologies and various mapping software to support field operations, project planning, and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, processing, and management of spatial data using GPS devices for various operational needs.
- Update and maintain digital maps and GIS databases with new infrastructure details, land surveys, and operational changes.
- Perform thorough quality control checks on mapping data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all projects.
- Generate custom maps, reports, and data visualizations for various departments, including engineering, environmental, and operations.
- Provide mapping data and GPS guidance support to field teams during on-site surveys and project implementations.
- Collaborate effectively with senior mapping specialists, engineers, and other stakeholders on ongoing and new projects.
- Ensure all mapping activities and data management comply with company standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of GPS technology and its practical application in mapping and surveying.
- Familiarity with GIS software concepts (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and data management.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, analysis, and map creation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data organization and reporting.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work with various types of maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Surveying, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
- Prior experience (including internships or academic projects) with GIS data collection or mapping projects.
- Basic knowledge of petroleum industry terminology, infrastructure, or operational processes.
- Experience with AutoCAD or other Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Ability to perform light fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
