Job Description

Join our dynamic pharmacy team as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician at a major HCA Florida Healthcare facility in New Port Richey, FL. In this critical role, you will support the pharmacists in providing safe, effective, and timely medication services to hospitalized patients. You will be instrumental in the medication dispensing process, inventory management, sterile compounding, and ensuring patient safety standards are met. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, label, and dispense medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, including oral, topical, and sterile products.
  • Perform medication inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating stock to ensure proper storage and expiration dates.
  • Accurately compound sterile preparations (IVs) using aseptic technique in a laminar flow hood or isolator.
  • Process medication orders and charges using the hospital's electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Conduct daily quality control checks and maintain equipment related to medication preparation and storage.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation and patient education under pharmacist direction.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures regarding medication handling and patient safety.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient medication delivery.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current Florida Pharmacy Technician registration/license
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital or inpatient setting
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, drug names, and pharmacy calculations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy software and electronic health record (EHR) systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field
  • Experience with automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell)
  • Experience with sterile compounding and hazardous medications
  • Knowledge of USP <797> and USP <800> guidelines
