Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Industrial Engineering Intern with a strong interest in Lean Manufacturing principles to join our team in Bristol. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading global engineering firm, working alongside experienced professionals to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, and reduce waste. You will contribute to real-world projects aimed at enhancing our operational excellence and productivity within our manufacturing facilities. This role is perfect for students looking to apply theoretical knowledge in a dynamic industrial setting and develop practical skills in lean methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the analysis of current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost, and quality.
- Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques, such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen events, and standard work.
- Collect and analyze production data to monitor performance, track improvements, and report findings.
- Participate in root cause analysis for production bottlenecks and inefficiencies, proposing data-driven solutions.
- Develop and update process documentation, work instructions, and training materials.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and design engineering.
- Contribute to projects focused on layout optimization, material flow, and waste reduction (Muda).
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, R).
- Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies.
- Understanding of supply chain management principles.
