Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Industrial Engineering Intern with a strong interest in Lean Manufacturing principles to join our team in Bristol. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading global engineering firm, working alongside experienced professionals to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, and reduce waste. You will contribute to real-world projects aimed at enhancing our operational excellence and productivity within our manufacturing facilities. This role is perfect for students looking to apply theoretical knowledge in a dynamic industrial setting and develop practical skills in lean methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the analysis of current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques, such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen events, and standard work.
  • Collect and analyze production data to monitor performance, track improvements, and report findings.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for production bottlenecks and inefficiencies, proposing data-driven solutions.
  • Develop and update process documentation, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and design engineering.
  • Contribute to projects focused on layout optimization, material flow, and waste reduction (Muda).

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, R).
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Understanding of supply chain management principles.
