Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Google Technical Writer to join our remote team. This role is crucial for developing, maintaining, and improving technical documentation that empowers our users and internal teams. You will be responsible for translating complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content, ensuring accuracy and consistency across various platforms. As a core member of our documentation and support ecosystem, you will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and support specialists to deliver world-class documentation that drives product adoption and enhances the user experience. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, write, and update technical documentation including user guides, API references, FAQs, and release notes for complex software products and services.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, and support teams to gather information, understand product features, and identify documentation requirements.
- Ensure documentation is technically accurate, consistent in style and tone, and compliant with Google's brand guidelines.
- Manage the documentation lifecycle from planning and creation to review, publication, and deprecation.
- Utilize various content management systems (CMS), knowledge bases, and documentation tools.
- Conduct audience analysis and usability testing to ensure documentation meets user needs.
- Implement and maintain search engine optimization (SEO) best practices for documentation.
- Contribute to documentation standards, style guides, and terminology management.
- Provide editorial support and review content created by other team members for clarity, grammar, and adherence to style guides.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a technical writer in a software or technology company.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Markdown, DITA, reStructuredText) and content management systems.
- Strong understanding of complex technical concepts, including APIs, cloud computing, software development, and data structures.
- Excellent command of English grammar, style, and vocabulary.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, English, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Technical Communication or a related field.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform products and services.
- Familiarity with UX writing principles and user-centered design.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Certification in technical writing or a related area.
- Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, Java) for understanding code samples.
